Zimná univerziáda SR 2026 uzatvára svoju kapitolu

V dňoch 2. - 6. februára 2026 sa uskutočnila na našej univerzite Zimná univerziáda SR 2026. Priniesla na pôdu UNIZA jedinečnú športovú atmosféru a zároveň vytvorila priestor na podporu univerzitného športu a aktívneho študentského života. Súťažilo sa v 14 športových disciplínach za účasti 537 športovcov a ich realizačných tímov, pričom až tretina žien bola z UNIZA, čo prevýšilo priemer univerziády. Športovci UNIZA získali spolu 18 medailí. Darilo sa tímom aj jednotlivcom – florbalisti a florbalistky regiónu stred (s výrazným zastúpením UNIZA) zvíťazili vo svojej súťaži, hokejisti vybojovali bronz. Mimoriadne úspešní boli stolní tenisti, medaily pribudli aj v tanečnom športe, silovom trojboji, skialpinizme, lukostreľbe a karate. V celkovom hodnotení univerzít obsadila UNIZA výborné 3. miesto. The Slovak Winter Universiade 2026 closes its chapter

The Slovak Winter Universiade 2026 took place at our university from 2 to 6 February 2026. It brought a unique sporting atmosphere to UNIZA and created a space to support university sports and active student life. There were competitions in 14 sports disciplines with the participation of 537 athletes and their support teams, with up to a third of the women coming from UNIZA, which exceeded the average for the Universiade. UNIZA athletes won a total of 18 medals. Both teams and individuals did well – floorball players from the central region (with a significant representation of UNIZA) won their competition, and hockey players won bronze. Table tennis players were extremely successful. Medals were also earned in dance sports, powerlifting, ski mountaineering, archery, and karate. 27. reprezentačný ples UNIZA 2026 - večer plný elegancie, hviezd a nezabudnuteľnej atmosféry

Priestory SZ Novej Menzy sa dňa 6. februára 2026 opäť naplnili magickým osvetlením, slávnostnou náladou a elegantne oblečenými hosťami – zamestnancami, študentmi a aj partnermi univerzity. Večer odštartoval moderátor Štefan Skrúcaný hitom Lady Carneval v sprievode VIVAS Dance Group. Celý program ponúkol umeleckú pestrosť – od spoločenských tancov v podaní TOP Dance Žilina cez temperamentný FS Stavbár až po energické coververzie kapely ČardášGANG. Hudobným vrcholom večera bol legendárny Michal David, ktorý hostí roztancoval svojimi novšími i najväčšími hitmi. Večer spestrila tombola so zaujímavými cenami a hudobnú bodku celému večeru dali video oldies mixy od DJ Kuka. Tento ročník opäť potvrdil, že UNIZA ples je jeden z najprestížnejších spoločenských udalostí v Žiline. 

27^th UNIZA Representative Ball 2026 – an evening full of elegance, stars and an unforgettable atmosphere

On 6 February 2026, the premises of the catering facility New Menza were once again filled with magical lighting, a festive mood and elegantly dressed guests – employees, students and partners of the university. The evening was set in motion by presenter Štefan Skrúcaný performing the hit Lady Carneval, accompanied by the VIVAS Dance Group. The entire programme offered artistic diversity – from ballroom dancing performed by TOP Dance Žilina through the spirited folklore ensemble Stavbár to energetic cover versions by the band ČardášGANG. The musical highlight of the evening was the legendary Michal David, who got the guests dancing with his newer and greatest hits. The evening was enriched by a raffle with interesting prizes. The musical finale to the evening was provided by DJ Kuka's video oldies mixes. This year's event once again confirmed that the UNIZA Ball is one of the most prestigious social events in Žilina. 

Projekt UNIZA podporený firmou STRAVA

Tohtoročný Strava Metro Academic Research Program, ktorý druhý rok potvrdzuje pretrvávajúci záväzok spoločnosti Strava využívať údaje zodpovedne v záujme verejného blaha, otvára dvere druhej kohorte vedcov, ktorí budú skúmať, ako mestské prostredie ovplyvňuje náš pohyb. Do programu bolo zaslaných viac ako 200 projektových prihlášok z celého sveta, no vybraných bolo iba 10 projektov. Jedným z troch európskych projektov sa stal aj projekt z UNIZA „Využitie GIS na podporu manažérskeho rozhodovania pri zvyšovaní atraktivity cykloturistických trás“ z FRI vedený doc. Ing. Petrom Mártonom, PhD. Kľúčovými partnermi sú Katedrou cestnej a mestskej dopravy FPEDaS UNIZA, mesto Žilina a Žilinský, Trenčiansky, Nitriansky a Trnavský samosprávny kraj. Cieľom projektu je priniesť inovatívne riešenia pre rozvoj cyklodopravy na Slovensku. Primárne zameranie bude na analýzu a zvyšovanie atraktivity Vážskej cyklomagistrály a rozvoj cyklistickej dopravy v meste Žilina. Vďaka získaniu prístupu k unikátnym dátam platformy Strava Metro o pohybe cyklistov získavame nástroj, ktorý umožní našim študentom a výskumníkom pracovať s reálnymi údajmi o intenzite a preferenciách cyklistov v teréne, v období od januára 2020 do decembra 2026. 

UNIZA project supported by the company STRAVA

This year's Strava Metro Academic Research Program, which for the second year confirms Strava's ongoing commitment to using data responsibly for the public good, opens the doors to a second cohort of researchers who will investigate how the urban environment influences our movement. More than 200 project applications from all over the world were submitted to the program, but only 10 were selected, and one of the three European projects was the UNIZA project "Using GIS to support managerial decision-making in increasing the attractiveness of cycling routes" from the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, led by Assoc. Prof. Ing. Peter Márton, PhD. The key partners are the Department of Road and Urban Transport of the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications UNIZA, the city of Žilina and the Žilina, Trenčín, Nitra and Trnava self-governing regions. The aim of the project is to bring innovative solutions for the development of cycling in Slovakia. The primary focus will be on analysing and increasing the attractiveness of the cycle route Vážská cyclomagistrála and the development of cycling transport in the city of Žilina. Thanks to gaining access to the unique data of the Strava Metro platform on cyclist movement, we are gaining a tool that will allow our students and researchers to work with real data on the intensity and preferences of cyclists in the field in the period from January 2020 to December 2026.
